The Empire has been ruled over by the Holy Empress Gheverie for the past 10 years. She was placed on the holy throne when her father ascended to heaven in the year 62 agw. As of yet she has not taken a husband to continue the blood line, but the people have faith that heaven will provide. The people do the will of their Empress without question as she is descended directly from the one true messiah who brought humanity into the light during the Dark Age of Technology.
The Empress rules over the great families of the Empire. Nine families who rule over nine holy Imperial systems. All pay tribute and give troops to defend the Empire in time of need; the grand army of the Empire is almost ten million men strong. Each great house is permitted ten thousand men as an honor guard to defend their home worlds and act as a planetary police force. A strict set of rules of engagement has been placed upon the families when dealing with inter-house warfare that keeps the common people safe, disputes are often fought between champions of the house with the victors being ordained by god. During house disputes to kill an innocent civilians is forbidden , all civilians of a given world are the bound vassal of the ruling family and serve the family to the best of their ability paying tithe and tribute to the empress through the ruling family .slaves are kept by the middle and upper classes and are usually Synthetic beings.
The Empire tends toward high fashion in its clothing styles. This is even reflected in some of the uniforms of the military, with high leather boots and smart leather coats they look the part of a civilized and cultured society.
Mutations are not tolerated within the Empire, if a child is found to be a mutant they are killed at birth, occasionally one will slip through the cracks, or not show any physical changes until puberty. These unfortunate souls must seek refuge in the underground or with the Fringers as to be uncovered in Imperial space would surely mean a death sentence
The Imperials one true weakness lies on their utter reliance on the Meurlain to move them from system to system. In the Imperial religion the one thing that stands against them is the nothingness of void, and this concept terrifies them to their very core. Each house hold maintains a small Group of Meurlain that act as web guides for the household that act and fight as an extension of the house hold. Any child born to a household that shows astrogation potential is taken by the Meurlain and the family mourns their loss for the soul of that child is truly lost.
